Martin Boyle expressed his disappointment in Hibs performance against Motherwell but promised the team will come back stronger next season.

The game’s telling moment came after 35 minutes when Lukas Fadinger’s effort arrowed into the top corner of Raphael Sallinger’s net.

Speaking after the final whistle, Boyle who signed a new contract which will keep him at Easter Road for another year said: “I personally thought the first half was not good enough.

“We knew they keep the ball really well, but we just couldn’t get after it. We looked lethargic, and we certainly got told that at half-time.

“We made a few tweaks at half-time, we made a few subs, and we tried to go for it.

“Obviously the red card happened, and we were trying to get bodies forward, and we just couldn’t get that goal.

“We just didn’t create enough opportunities, so it’s disappointing because we had an opportunity today to secure Europe, and now we have to rely on a favour.

“We had to be motivated today, and we just didn’t show it.  Unfortunately, these things happen, but next season we have to rectify it.

“We have to be more consistent. We have to be more on the front foot, and we have to get after teams at home as well.

“We can’t have teams coming here, keeping the ball off us like that, and like I say, fair play to Motherwell.

“They’ve had a fantastic season, and we’ve just come up short.”
