Applications for the post of head coach at relegated Livingston close on Friday and the club have revealed that there has been a high volume of interest from both domestic and international candidates.
Former Falkirk and Rangers midfielder, Scott Arfield, who stepped in to guide the club for the final three matches of the William Hill Premiership season, losing 3-0 at Dundee, gaining a 0-0 draw at Dundee United and losing 4-1 at home to Kilmarnock, is in talks to be a player/coach next season.
A statement issued by the Home of the Set Fare Arena club said: “Scott assumed responsibility ahead of our match against Dundee at extremely short notice, taking on the role with less than 24 hours’ preparation.
“Despite the challenging circumstances, he approached the task with professionalism, commitment and a real desire to support the club during a crucial period.
“His willingness to step-up when called upon reflects his character and leadership, and everyone at Livingston FC is incredibly grateful for his efforts across those final fixtures.”
The statement added: “Discussions are currently ongoing with Scott regarding a potential combined player-coach role for the 2026/27 season. These conversations have been positive, and we hope to be in a position to provide a further update in the near future.
“In addition, we can confirm that there has been a significant level of interest in the club’s vacant head coach position, with a high volume of applications received from both domestic and international candidates.”
Meanwhile, Motherwell player, Sam Nicholson, has signed a pre-contract agreement, with the West Lothian club.
The 32-year-old winger arrives with a wealth of experience across Scotland, England, and the United States, and Livingston say he will bring pace, creativity, and proven quality in the final third to the squad.
Nicholson began his career with Heart of Midlothian, progressing through the youth ranks before breaking into the first team and establishing himself as an exciting attacking talent, making over 100 appearances for the Gorgie side.
His performances in Edinburgh earned him a move to the United States, where he enjoyed spells in Major League Soccer with Minnesota United and Colorado Rapids, making over 100 appearances across his time in MLS.
Sam returned to the UK in 2020 to sign for Bristol Rovers, spending two seasons at the Memorial Ground before heading back to Colorado Rapids in 2022. January 2024 saw him return to Scotland, initially joining Motherwell on loan before securing a permanent two-year deal at Fir Park ahead of the 2024/25 season. He is comfortable operating on either wing.
Finally, the club have confirmed that Cammy Kerr has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club for the 2026/27 season.
The experienced defender has shown real determination this season, working his way back from injury to make all 11 of his competitive appearances since returning to full fitness in February.
A product of Dundee’s youth system, Cammy built up a wealth of experience with his hometown club, making over 200 appearances and captaining the side, while also enjoying loan spells at Peterhead and Inverness Caledonian Thistle. A spell at Queen’s Park followed before he made the move to West Lothian last summer.
A statement said: “His knowledge of the game and professionalism have been invaluable additions to the dressing room. Even while sidelined, Cammy continued to play an important role within the squad, offering support, leadership, and guidance to younger players. It was fantastic to see him make his return to action at Celtic Park.
“A player with proven pedigree in the Championship, having won the title twice with Dundee, as well as securing promotion via the Premiership play-offs, Cammy brings vital experience as we look to challenge for similar success in the season ahead.”
