Councillors will consider plans to put dedicated coach pay-and-display parking in Edinburgh to keep buses from parking on city centre streets.
Under proposals by officers, pay-and-display bays for buses would be introduced on King’s Stables Road and Regent Road.
It comes as part of a larger coach management plan being developed in Edinburgh, which intends to address the “negative consequences” of some coach and bus movements.
Coach access has already been removed from Johnstone Terrace and Lawnmarket.
In addition, council officers have been working to improve communications with the coach trade and the public in relation to the way coaches should use city streets.
On King’s Stables Road, it is proposed that the paid parking bays would operate adjacent to the Castle Terrace car park.
They would be in effect from 8.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday, and 12.30pm to 6.30pm on Sunday, with a maximum stay of 10 hours.
And on Regent Road, the bays would operate on the north side of the carriageway between Regent Terrace and Carlton Terrace Brae.
Hours of operation would be between 8.30am and 5.30pm, with a maximum stay of nine hours.
At both locations, parking costs would initially be set at £9.80 per hour, which officers stated in the report was in line with other medium-stay coach parking in the city.
In addition, they said the locations proposed currently contain pay-and-display bays which are poorly used, meaning the impacts on parking availability would be “minimal”.
The next steps for the council’s coach plan will involve finding more areas for medium-stay coach parking in the city, as well as changes to coach routes in the city centre.
Councillors will consider the plan, and decide on whether to implement the two parking areas, at the meeting of the Transport and Environment Committee on 2 April.
