Lasswade have wasted no time in promoting Harry Miller to senior first team rugby just a fortnight after qualifying to step up from the colts on his 18th birthday.
And they were rewarded with a try scoring debut from the powerful and pacey winger in a 27-13 home victory over Orkney which virtually secures their position in Division Three of the Arnold Clark National Leagues.
According to playing president Mark Billingham it was a particularly poignant occasion when Harry took the field.
Says Mark: “Harry joined our club in the P1 mini rugby section.and while he is maybe not the first to come right through his coach when starting out, Dale Robertson, was on the pitch at the same time against Orkney playing tight head prop.
“Harry proved he was ready to slot in with his lightning pace and a physique that has grown as the season has progressed; he is now man sized to go with his speed.”
Hopes are high that Harry’s experience will show others what can be done in stepping out of any comfort zone and there is certainly plenty of potential down the ranks at the club.
Adds Mark: “Currently we have around 35 players available for our colts who enjoy a high quality fixture list alongside some schools while there are about 30 players eligible for our under-16s and a similar number registered for the S1 team.
“Securing our future in the same league gives us something to build on and there is a buzz about the whole club at the moment with so many people putting heart and soul into things.”
