Police officers have carried out a road safety initiative in the School Street Zones around Gilmerton Primary School.
The operation was in response to growing concerns from local residents, parents and teachers.
School Street Zones were introduced to reduce traffic in the streets around schools at key times during the day and prohibits most vehicular traffic moving within these zones, set out by flashing signage.
Unless exempt, driving through a School Streets Zone whilst in operation is an offence.
As a result of this initiative, non-endorseable fixed penalty tickets were issued and three drivers received a warning for using their mobile phone.
A police spokesperson said: “We are aware that not all the flashing signage has been operational recently but ensuring that your children reach school safely is a priority for us and we will be carrying out further enforcement action in the future.”
