Over the weekend, a key focus of Edinburgh police officers has been the ongoing operation in Leith Walk.
On Friday officers attended a local youth diversion project, ‘Friday night lights’. This commitment has been ongoing for several years and allows officers to connect directly with young people through football.
Officers were also out on foot patrol in the Newkirkgate and Leith Walk areas throughout the evening, engaging with the local community. During these patrols, a number of licensing issues were detected and action taken.
On Saturday Plainclothes officers observed an unregistered Sur-Ron motorbike in Leith Walk the driver of which was wearing a balaclava.
Officers quickly apprehended the driver and detained him.
In total, the 15-year-old driver was charged with six offences and their recently bought motorbike, valued at approximately £2.5k was seized by officers.
A Police spokesperson said: “We know there is significant concern in local communities about unregistered motorbikes on public roads and their use in criminality. Please be assured that we are listening and will continue our efforts to tackle their use.”
In addition Road Policing officers were also on the ground in Leith and along with local officers collectively achieved the following.
