EDINBURGH Airport’s CEO, Gordon Dewar, is to step down by the end of the year after 14 years in the role.
Since becoming the airport’s top executive in 2012, he rebranded Edinburgh Airport to the place where “Scotland meets the world” and passenger numbers have grown from around 9 million in 2012 to just under 17 million in 2025.
Mr Dewar has said he will assist in finding his successor during his remaining time in the job, and continue the “momentum” the airport has gathered in recent years.
Gordon oversaw significant capital investments during his tenure, expanding capacity and productivity as well as improving the efficiency of the customer service team.
He also guided an expansion of Edinburgh Airport’s partnerships with other airports in the UK.
Before joining Edinburgh Airport, he held posts as the managing director of Edinburgh, Bahrain, and Glasgow Airports in the late 2000s.
Prior to this, he was an associate at Halcrow, and worked in management positions at both FirstGroup and Arriva.
Gordon said: “It has been the highlight of my career to develop this fabulous business as part of an amazing, talented and committed team.
“I am immensely proud of our growth record not least because what it means for my home city and for Scotland as a whole.
“Together we delivered better connectivity and market leading results through a business that knows its place at the heart of our community. Importantly, all of this has been driven by values that we jointly hold and are rightly passionate about.
“In my remaining months I look forward to helping find my successor and to continue driving the momentum of this business that has the brightest of futures and limitless opportunities.
“I will also be able to use that time to show my appreciation and thanks to all who have shaped this amazing journey and will continue to do so.”
Stewart Wingate, managing director of VINCI, the company which owns Edinburgh Airport, said: “Gordon is an extremely talented executive and has done a tremendous job at Edinburgh Airport over many years.
“He leaves with the thanks and best wishes of the board. His legacy of a strong team, exceptional growth and a clear value driven strategy stand Edinburgh and its airport in good stead for the future.”
Edinburgh Airport, who were bought out by VINCI Group in June 2024 is now embarking on its “most ambitious capital investment programme” ever. One component of this expansion is an “extensive plan” to redesign its flight paths as part of the biggest shake-up of UK airspace in history.
