A celebration is being held during the Pat Tait Exhibition which is being staged at WHALE Arts in Wester Hailes.
WHALE Arts has issued a general invitation to everyone in the locality to join a special celebration event for Pat Tait’s Stitching Exhibition on 24 February from 1.30pm to 3pm at WHALE Arts in Wester Hailes.
This event will mark both the closing of a remarkable exhibition and wish a heartfelt farewell to Pat Tait, who is stepping away from WHALE Arts due to health reasons.
She has been attending WHALE’s Open Studio sessions and has been a group member of the Stitch’N’Time group for many years.
Pat’s exhibition showcases a lifetime of extraordinary stitching and textile artistry, celebrating decades of dedication to traditional and decorative needlework techniques.
The exhibition features an extensive collection of intricate handcraft including hardanger, cross-stitch, embroidery and blackwork — each piece reflecting patience, technical mastery and a deep love of creative practice.
The event will offer visitors an opportunity to view the exhibition one final time while enjoying high tea in a warm and welcoming environment.
The afternoon is free, open to everyone and requires no booking — guests are encouraged to just come along and join the celebration.
This special afternoon recognises not only Pat’s artistic achievements, but also her valued place within the WHALE Arts community.

Pauline Tait – Pat’s Daughter-in-law said:“Pat always likes to keep herself busy and believes that handcrafts are the best way to keep boredom at bay. Pat is sad she is unable to attend Whale any longer and is very grateful for the many hours of mindfulness, joy, support and friendship she has received there. She is delighted that her work has brought interest and inspiration to so many people.”
Debbie, Lead Artist of the Stitch’N’Time Group at WHALE Arts, said: “For many years, Pat has been at the very heart of our sewing group — a constant, reassuring presence whose skill, warmth, and enthusiasm have shaped who we are today.
Her capability with needle and thread is second to none. Whether tackling an intricate pattern, patiently unpicking a tricky seam, or offering gentle guidance to others, she has always brought dedication and quiet expertise to every session. Her work reflects not only talent, but years of experience, care, and pride in doing things well.
Beyond her skill, it is her spirit that we will miss most. She has been unfailingly friendly, welcoming new members with kindness and encouragement, and bringing laughter and lively conversation to our meetings. Her enthusiasm has been infectious, and her commitment unwavering — a true example of what makes our group so special.
It is with sadness that we say goodbye as she steps away due to health reasons. While we completely understand, her absence will certainly be felt around the table. The group will not be quite the same without her steady hands and warm smile.
We would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to Elma for facilitating her attendance over the years. Your support has meant so much and has helped make her long involvement with the group possible.
She leaves behind not only beautiful pieces of sewing, but also lasting friendships and treasured memories. She will be greatly missed, and we wish her comfort and good health in the days ahead.”
