Livingston have signed defender Mitchell Robertson from Celtic on a contract until the summer of 2029, but the 20-year-old will not play for the cub this season.

Celtic’s former B Team captain has spent the first part of the season on loan at Inverness Caley Thistle, the current Scottish League One pace-setters and he will remain with the Highland club for the rest of the campaign.

Meanwhile, The Lions go into Saturday’s Wiliam Hill Premiership clash at managerless Aberdeen (15.00) with boss David Martindale still smarting from the loss of two points to St Mirren at home in midweek.

Livingston led thanks to a second-half strike from Robbie Muirhead but combative Alex Gogic snatched a dramatic late leveller. Martindale claims that the Cypriot defender fouled his player, Joshua Brenet, in the lead up to the goal which from a ball delivered from a corner on the right.

Martindale asked: “How can that goal be given? There is a big foul on Brenet.”

Decisions like that have cost the men from the Home of the Set Fare Arena dear. Indeed, Livi have lost 15 points from winning positions in the Premiership this season, and they are determined to snap a 21-game run without a win.

Martindale argued: “VAR isn’t making the game any better.”

As it stands, Livingston prop up the rest with 11 points from 22 outings, three behind second-bottom Kilmarnock and eight adrift of St Mirren who are tenth. Eighth-placed Aberdeen have 25 points from their 22 games.

The Lions have scored 22 goals and let in 42, the worst goals against tally in the 12-strong division. Aberdeen have netted on 20 occasions and shipped 28 and both clubs are desperate for points for different reasons.

Meanwhile, Jesper Karlsson’s loan from Bologna with Aberdeen is reported to have been cancelled despite being the club’s top marksman.

They have signed centre-back Liam Morrison on loan. The former Celtic and Bayern Munich youth player will spend the rest of the campaign on loan from English Championship club, Queen’s Park Rangers and he comes in as Lutz Pfannenstiel, Aberdeen’s sporting director, knows him well from his time in Germany.
