Hibernian Women Captain Rachael Boyle made her 150th appearance for the club in Sunday’s defeat to Celtic.
Now she is ready for the challenge of taking on old foes Glasgow City just days after reaching a special milestone for the Club.
Reflecting on the milestone, Boyle remains frustrated by the match outcome but still appreciates the importance of the landmark.
“I actually didn’t know it was my 150th until after the game when the girls mentioned it. First and foremost, the result is obviously one we want to forget. There wasn’t much between the teams overall but we had a few minutes towards the end of the first half where we have let ourselves down and ultimately it has cost us the game.
“As for it being my 150th, I am proud of the achievement. I would’ve loved to have played many more games for this club but after going through two pregnancies, the second of which followed by an ACL injury along with a few other issues on my return, my game time has been restricted of late but I am still proud of my resilience to battle through the last few years to get back to competing with this squad.”
Boyle is now promptly looking ahead to appearance No.151 as Hibs face a quicker-than-usual turnaround due to the visit of Glasgow City to Meadowbank Stadium on Friday night.
The televised encounter sets up an intriguing clash between the two sides early on in the campaign under the lights, with Boyle wary of the threat City possess – including an in-form forward who grabbed a hat-trick last weekend.
“I don’t think it matters what Glasgow City team you come up against, we all know that it is going to be a tough task.
“Every year people question if this is the year that Glasgow City are going to fall away from the top but they never do. They are a top side and we know that we will need to be at the top of our game to get a result.
“The have threats all over the pitch but Lisa Forrest in particular looks to be up and running very quickly this season, so we will do our homework as we always do and be ready for the challenge ahead on Friday night.”
While City prevailed in a Sky Sports Cup meeting between the two clubs in January 2026, Hibs are currently unbeaten in seven league matches against Leanne Ross’ outfit – the longest-ever unbeaten league stretch against the Springburn-based club since records began.
“I’m sure that is a stat that Glasgow City will be looking to rectify come Friday night so as I say, we will need to be ready for the challenge that is coming our way,” Boyle commented on the statistic.
“But we need to take confidence from those previous meetings and believe that we are good enough to compete at the top end of this league.”
The meeting with City is a designated Hibs Kids matchday – the first of the new campaign – allowing Hibs Kids members to gain entry to the exciting fixture for free.
And Boyle hopes to put on a show for all in attendance.
“Hibs Kids fixtures are always good fun, all the excitement building pre-match for the kids and families that come along is nice to see.
“Add into the fact that its a game versus Glasgow City under the lights at Meadowbank, its got the makings of being another cracking encounter between the two teams and one that we will be doing everything we possibly can to be the team that comes out on top.”
