Wouter Vrancken said he saw some good things in the 6-2 victory over William Hill Championship side Inverness Caley Thistle, but he added: “There are things we need to work on.”
One of the areas of concern was the loss of two goals early in the second half – after 54 and 56 minutes – and the club’s head coach told Hearts TV that it was good his men did not panic.
The reaction was there, and not a panic reaction, and Hearts kept searching for what he called “moments”.
The Belgian-born coach (pictured by Nigel Duncan) declared: “We have to iron out some situations and be more balanced in some attacking situations.”
He admitted that Hearts lacked “numbers in the (penalty) box sometimes” but that was “better” second half.
That area is work in progress but the half-time message was to find more space and to control the ball better.
He added: “We want to see constructive, positive football but not in our six yards or eight yards.”
The squad are, he said, trying to adapt to what he and his coaching staff want and he was pleased that his men scored six goals.
Efficiency in both boxes is “very important” when you want to win games and he said that in the offensive box they were “pretty clinical”.
Scoring goals was nice for the player and their confidence and nice for the fans.
