The death of a 48-year-old man in Edinburgh city centre is being treated as unexplained but not believed to be suspicious.

Emergency services responded to the death on Greenside Row around 5.45pm on Tuesday 6 January.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.45pm on Tuesday, 6 January, 2026, we received a report of a death in the Greenside Row area of Edinburgh. 

“Emergency services attended and a 48-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. 

“The death is being treated as unexplained but not believed to be suspicious. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
