Joelle Murray has spoken for the first time following her appointment as Hibernian FC Women Head Coach!
Speaking to Hibs TV, Murray discussed a variety of topics, ranging from the process of being hired, her team’s identity, the importance of her staff, and much more.
The Head Coach also touched on the remainder of the campaign following the winter break and her excitement to get stuck into the new role.
She said: “It’s a real honour to be given the opportunity to lead this fantastic group of players at this unbelievable Club. For me it was a no-brainer. I spoke very closely with the owners and Malky Mackay, and they indicated that I was the person they wanted to step into the role. So it’s been a busy 48 hours but certainly an exciting one for me.
“I think my knowledge of the Club, my knowledge and experience within the game in Scotland, but also the relationships that have formed – that has happened throughout my playing career and obviously the last season and a half so far with players – will really stand me in good stead to take this opportunity, really progress with it and go forward with it, and hopefully make a positive impact.”
“I think having the relationship that I have with Stewart, (Hall) he brings a wealth of experience. He’s got fantastic qualities and he’s held in high regard within the playing group, within the staff group and here at the Club. Together we can really hopefully be successful, and certainly work together in a very efficient way. Our qualities will continue to complement each other for the benefit of the players and the team.”
“I think for me, when I made the transition from player to assistant coach, I didn’t want to compromise who I was. And certainly it will be the same now. Obviously, it’s a different role, but for me, I’ll still expect the same demands, the same respect and that’ll be two ways. I like feedback, I want feedback and I’ll be asking that of the group like I have done when I was a captain, when I was assistant coach, and I’ll continue that now that I am Head Coach. Nothing much will change. It’s continuing what we’re doing, what we’ve been doing and how can we add that one percent.”
“I’ve got every confidence in the players. The quality that we’ve got in the group is unbelievable. We’ve got a wealth of experience and youthfulness, and together the group is hungry, they’re hungry for success. I have no doubt that we’ve got a team of warriors, a team that are all pulling in the same direction and playing for each other and we speak a lot about togetherness and that’s something that I believe we’ve got that in abundance here. I have belief in individual ability, but that collectiveness will be crucial going into the second half of the season.”
