Looking ahead to this weekend’s Derby

Defender Craig Halkett netted two minutes into injury time to earn Hearts a 1-0 victory over Capital rivals Hibs at Tynecastle on October 4.

The goal caused huge emotion among the Gorgie faithful and dejection for the travelling fans.

The pair square-up again on Saturday (kick-off 12.30) at Easter Road and the Derby between Hearts and Hibs is always the main deal, according to Jambos’ head coach, Derek McInnes.

However, the former Aberdeen and Kilmarnock boss said that in the context of the season so far the game is all about trying to win three points and keep, what he called, “the whole thing going”.

As it stands, Hearts have 41 points from 18 fixtures and lead the William Hill Premiership by six points from champions, Celtic.

Hibs are fifth with 25 points from 18 starts.

The Jambos have scored 36 goals and shipped 14 while their city rivals have scored 28 goals and let in 20.

McIness has guided his squad to three straight wins and two draws in their last five outings with significant wins over Celtic at Parkhead, Falkirk at the Falkirk Stadium and last Sunday over fourth-placed Rangers.

Hibs have lost three of their last five starts, going down at Motherwell (2-0), at home to Celtic (2-1) and losing 1-0 at Ibrox but beating Falkirk 3-0 in Edinburgh and drawing 1-1 at Tannadice last weekend.

McInnes warned fans: “There are going to be a lot of good players on show, Hibs have got a lot of good players.

“Myself, Paul (Sheerin) and Alan (Archibald) have all watched them live over the last few games and they are a good side. Going to Easter Road is always a tricky game.

“I expect it to be similar to the game at Tynecastle, there was nothing in it really. If you look at the context of the game it was really tight and I imagine Saturday to be no different.”
