Pilton Equalities Project – minibuses vandalised
Pilton Equalities Project (PEP) provides essential services for older and other vulnerable adults in North Edinburgh. The group supports Older People’s Lunch Clubs, mental health and community transport.
After last weekend many older people were unable to get to some of their activities since vandals had damaged the buses used for transport.
All buses were parked at Blackhall Library and all were targeted. Fuel tanks were drilled and emptied. The PEP team has created an action plan to get everything they do back up and running. The organisation is looking for long term secure facilities. If you know of somewhere then please get in touch with them.
The vandalism was reported to the police. It is however so mindless with vast consequences on the lives of vulnerable older people, not to mention the financial impact on the organisation.

One comment on Facebook reads: “What a stupid, cruel and pointless thing to do.” We are in complete agreement with that sentiment.
Children’s Messiah
At Queen’s Hall there is a 45 minute long concert on 17 December especially for young ears.
“Guided by Mr Handel, and his footwoman Frances, this specially devised 45-minute adaptation of Handel’s masterpiece will guide young listeners through some of his greatest hits, with plenty of fun and interactive games along the way.”
Under Irish Skies
A new art exhibition will open on 4 December at Dundas Street Gallery called Under Irish Skies. This is a short run until 9 December and features work of four contemporary artists.
Curated by Joni O’Sullivan, a West Cork native born and raised on Bere Island, the exhibition marks her first curatorial project. Recently returned to Edinburgh to raise her young family,
O’Sullivan is an art lover and currently serves on the board of the National Galleries of Scotland.
She said: “Edinburgh has such a great art scene, so I wanted to showcase the talent of these brilliant artists here. There is a large Irish diaspora living in Edinburgh and across Scotland and many other people with a love of Ireland. We hope they come to see the beautiful art featured in Under Irish Skies.”
Festive crafting
Next weekend join the lovely Friends of Harrison Park when they run a free drop in festive nature crafting afternoon on board the Lochrin Belle at Harrison Park Pontoon on the canal.
Get on the Leith Creative Trail
The Leith Creative Trail is on all week.
This trail offers a chance to discover and celebrate all the artistic happenings in the vibrant nooks and creative spaces of Leith, some new, some local institutions, some small, some big – but all full of curiosity and talent. The trail brings all these wonderful spaces and people together and runs across a week of programming of all types including; makers markets, open studios, workshops, exhibitions, talks, and pop-up shops.
A spokesperson said: “The idea of the trail is to try and bag as many venues as possible – as we are all about knitting together the creative community and getting involved. You never know what you will discover!”
