A new exhibition of Irish art will be staged next week from 4 to 9 December at Dundas Street Gallery.
Under Irish Skies will include work from four artists – Nadette Charlet, Helena Korpela, Cora O’Brien, and Sarah Walker – and will celebrate contemporary Irish art, capturing landscapes and stories.
The art is curated by art lover, Joni O’Sullivan, a West Cork native born and brought up on Bere Island. This exhibition is her first curatorial project. She recently returned to Edinburgh to raise her young family and currently serves on the board of the National Galleries of Scotland.She said: “Edinburgh has such a great art scene, so I wanted to showcase the talent of these brilliant artists here. There is a large Irish diaspora living in Edinburgh and across Scotland and many other people with a love of Ireland. We hope they come to see the beautiful art featured in Under Irish Skies.”
Visitors will learn about Ireland, meet people from Irish organisations, artists, entrepreneurs and musicians at the same time as having the opportunity to buy original pieces.
The Consul General of Ireland in Scotland, Jerry O’Donovan supports the exhibition. He said:“I’m delighted to see such high quality Irish artistic talent on show here in Edinburgh and to be able to support the Under Irish Skies exhibition. The links between Ireland and Scotland are hugely important to both of our countries and culture in particular has played a unique role in connecting us. I’m very much looking forward to attending the exhibition.”
There is a private view on 4 December from 6pm to 8pm.
