Gareth Chalmers will provide “operational support” for Fife Flyers until early January despite having stepped down from his role as chief operating officer.

The former Glasgow Clan boss said he resigned after his advice was overruled on “multiple occasions”.

Fife, currently, prop up the ten-strong Elite League table after a disappointing start, losing a club record 18 games. Results recently have shown an improvement.

Chalmers issued a statement through local media channels and it is reported to have said: “I have made a very difficult decision to tender my resignation as the chief operating officer for Fife Flyers.

“There have been multiple occasions where I have felt strongly compelled to advise against a certain plan.

“Despite my concerns, the club has chosen to proceed…and these plans placed me at odds with the club’s direction. I cannot sacrifice personal and professional integrity for decisions I am opposed to.”

A statement from the club followed and it said: “We are incredibly grateful to Gareth for the time, energy, and commitment he has shown in helping relaunch and rebuild the club during a vital period.

“His experience and dedication played a key role in laying the foundations for getting us back onto the ice following our late takeover of the club during the summer.”

Chalmers, said Fife, has offered his support to ensure the transition period is as smooth as possible while work goes on to secure his successor.

On speculation on potential player signings the statement added: “We remain mindful of the broader responsibilities that come with every decision we make, and continue to act in the best interests of the club and its future.

“We wish Gareth nothing but the very best for the future, and he will always be part of the Flyers’ family.”
