Hidden away close to Dunfermline City railway station, a warm welcome awaits at Casa Mia.
This is a family run restaurant, serving authentic, traditional and contemporary Italian food. This is one of three Italian restaurants near the centre of Dunfermline. So what is different?
Location – The restaurant is within easy reach of the main bus route into Dunfermline, as well as trains. There is ample car parking behind the building as well as in the streets nearby.
Opening times – Meals are served from 4.45 to 9 pm – Wednesday to Friday, 12pm to 10pm on Saturday and 12pm to 9.30pm on Sunday. The restaurant is a good choice for a pre-theatre meal as it is near both the Alhambra and Carnegie Hall.
Ambience – Bright yet cosy, it is a great place for couples and families alike. Staff are friendly and helpful, and nothing is too much trouble. Colours are relaxing greens with wall hangings. Although the restaurant is on a busy road, the traffic noise is not intrusive.
Food – The menu has an extensive range of dishes – antipasti, pasta and risotto, pizzas, fish, meat and vegetarian, there is something for everyone. Gluten free options are available on request. I enjoyed a calamari starter with fresh lemon and tartare sauce. My dining companion chose gamberoni with a light garlic and white wine sauce. Both dishes were cooked to perfection.
We followed the antipasti with succulent Chicken Milanese with a fresh side salad and a pizza called “We are on Fire”. As you can imagine the pizza was HOT, a mix of spicy sausage, nduja and mozzarella cheese – tangy and flavourful.
Portions were generous, so we had no room for pudding. But the desserts looked delicious and included traditional tiramisu, cannoli, chocolate soufflé and ice cream.
Prices – Starters £8 to 13. Main courses £20 to £34, Desserts – £6.50 to £9.
Menus are changed approximately every six months.
Drinks – Choose from red, white, rose and sparkling, there are 12 wines in total, all Italian. Spirits ranged from beer and cider, rum, vodka, whisky, gin, cocktails and the option of a spritz. To finish the meal with there is a choice of 16 liqueurs, eight of which are Italian.
A well-kept secret, Casa Mia is worth a visit, whether you enjoy traditional Italian or something extraordinary, you will not be disappointed. And take away and delivery are also available.
