A total of 45 different sports were featured in The Edinburgh Reporter (in print and/or online) under grassroots/community/ local heroes in 2025 (how about we say pure sport, just asking?)
Within these stories local, Scottish, British, European and even world champions were highlighted.
There really is a mountain of talent that does not always get deserving recognition?
There are also unsung heroes such as 66-year-old paraglider Mike Armstrong and tales of the unexpected such as tennis doubles partners Scott Duncan and James Mackinlay who saved an astonishing 13 match points before winning a deciding set and a Challenger Tour title. For perspective the world record in the open era of singles is believed to be 12 – by John Isner who ended up losing to Tommy Haas anyway.

It as a particular pleasure, also, to identify young, up and coming, talents and introduce them through the columns. Competitors such as motor cyclist Kai Golder, racing driver Rachel Robertson, trampolinist Holly Allfrey and many others.

Och, there were just too many achievements to cram in here (and apologies to those who have failed to get a mention) but all are available to read about on this website – just click on the link. You really will be surprised at the astounding sporting happenings in Edinburgh and surrounding areas in 2025.
And for the record here is a list – in no particular order – of sports covered often away from the glare of what might be termed the mainstream.
