The planning applications lodged with the council’s planning department this week are detailed on the list below.
Any property owner seeking to build, improve or alter their home or commercial premises must have the correct consents. This begins with a planning application and usually progresses all the way to a completion certificate.
One application involves a property in respect of which the owners have made an application to demolish it – meantime a telecoms company is applying for permission to put up new units on the roof at 27-29 Ratcliffe Terrace.
Some applications for large developments such as purpose built student accommodation have been referred to the government Reporter after refusal by the council. Alterations to some buildings may also need listed building consent which is dealt with simultaneously.
There is a class of alterations which are considered “permitted developments” and will not need any planning permission. There is more guidance here.
Applications of note or interest this week include:
- There are nine applications relating to short term let properties.
- Parabola has applied for permission to form a temporary marketing suite on Lochside Way.
- The Scottish Police Authority are asking for permission to form a car fleet workshop in Bankhead
- And Virgin Hotels Edinburgh wants permission to create a new roof terrace on the existing flat roof with new windows and a hot tub
- And among several applications to remove old antennas on buildings in the city there is one where the rooftop at 27 to 29 Ratcliffe Terrace is to be upgraded with the removal of antennas and installation of new ones. This is the former Causeway Lads Institute building where an application has also been made to demolish the building. Read more about that here.
