Hibernian Women’s head coach Grant Scott was “delighted with the response” from his players as they overturned a two-goal deficit to seal a 3-2 win against Rangers at Meadowbank Stadium yesterday.

Katie Wilkinson netted twice to put the visitors in front before Rosie Livingstone pulled one back before the interval.

After the restart Kathleen McGovern and Eilidh Adams found the net to secure a sensational comeback triumph; which lifts Hibs up to third in the league table.

“I hope the girls were more so disappointed with the first half showing and that gave them enough to spur them on,” Scott told Hibs TV after the final whistle when asked about his side’s remarkable turnaround.

“Certainly we had a few words in there [at half-time]. I think that it’s important that as a team unit we are able to say things to each other that have not gone well and call each other out.

“But sometimes the players need reminders and that’s all we spoke about was improving the performance, improving the energy we put into the game, getting a couple of tactical details more accurate than we had in the first half. I was delighted with the response.

“We’ve asked Eilidh on a number of occasions to play – what she tells me is – out of position,” Scott commented. “I think she’s a better footballer than having just one position in truth and I think we’re now seeing the rewards.

“She’s had a run of games in that position and I actually think it’s almost starting to suit her game coming onto the ball in the key areas than maybe being in the box and waiting for deliveries. But look, she still plays in either position.

“We’re ready to play her anywhere across that front four positions. She’s such a good footballer. I’m delighted with her performances. That’s Glasgow City and Rangers now that she has scored against playing from there. So, something’s working.”

The terrific result came off the back of Hibs 9-0 win over Motherwell last weekend in the Sky Sports Cup last 16, and their next match sees the team travel to K-Park to once again face the ‘Well next Sunday.

Despite the thumping victory secured at Meadowbank in the cup, Scott insists his squad will remain focused and are expecting to face a Motherwell side who simply suffered from an off-day last time out.

“If I’m honest, I think [staying grounded] is one of our strengths. I think we are an honest group, a humble group. We have things we want to do when we take to the field, ways we want to behave when we’re off the field.

“The balance in the squad right now is really good. There’s no way that myself or the staff will let the players get way ahead of themselves. It’s another tough match.

“I said last week that I didn’t think that was a true reflection of the side that Motherwell are.

“We’ll prepare in the normal way and be ready to throw everything we can at Motherwell to win the match.”
