Fife Flyers’ agony goes on. They have now gone nine games without a win after Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat by Coventry Blaze in the Elite League.

A 3-1 final session win by the Midlands club sealed the deal after the visitors won the first session 1-0 and the middle stanza was blanked.

It took Blaze only 7min 12sec to go ahead, Grant Mismash netting, but Flyers hit back with a short-handed strike from new signing, Giordano Finoro.

His unassisted goal came after 42min 26sec but Fife’s joy was short-lived as Grayson Constable scored the go-ahead goal in 43min 47sec.

Blaze netted again 27 seconds later through William Boysen for 3-1 and Matthew Gleason secured the win with a fourth after 53min 59sec to make in another unhappy night for most of the 1,569 fans in The Fife Ice Arena.

On Friday, another night, and another defeat for Fife Flyers, this time 5-1 at Glasgow Clan in the Challenge Cup. It was a competition Flyers’ head coach, Jamies Russell, was using as a bedding in process for his new-look side.

However, it has proved a difficult competition for his injury-hit squad who were eliminated after their midweek defeat by arch rivals, Dundee Stars.

Yes, this was a nothing game on paper for Fife, but coach Russell is always looking to see signs of improvement. He does in every game and it will be interesting to see if he finds positives from this one.

The scoreline will make for difficult reading for Fife fans as their men were 5-0 down by the second intermission having been outshot 28-16 and the game eventually finished 5-1 leaving Fife anchoring the four-strong Challenge Cup section with eight points from 11 matches. Fife were outshot 32-24 overall.

Glasgow remain third but are now only three points behind Belfast Giants with two games in hand. Dundee Stars lead the section on 13 points from nine fixtures.

It took the home side 9min 06sec to get off the mark, Brett Neumann netting and the Braehead combine were 2-0 ahead after 14min 08sec when Rylan Schwartz found the rigging.

Worse was to follow when Jason Fram scored No 3 only 2min 20sec into the middle session and it became 4-0 after 36min 13sec, Newmann netting his second.

Just over a minute later Great Britain international, Robert Lachowicz, added a fifth and the scoreline stayed that way until the second break.

Shane Owen started between the pipes for Flyers and he was replaced by Ben Keddie at the start of the final session. Clan also changed their netminder, Lucas Brine replacing Sami Aittokallio and he was beaten once when Vlastimil Dostalek counted for Fife after 51mins, Ethan Hadden and Jaka Strum setting up the chance.
