Hibs head coach David Gray was left extremely frustrated as his side fell to a last-minute defeat to Hearts in the William Hill Premiership at Tyecastle yesterday.
There was very little between the two sides throughout the 90 minutes, with Martin Boyle coming closest for Hibs hitting the crossbar midway through the second half. However, a late winner from Craig Halkett condemned Gray’s men to defeat.
When speaking to Hibs TV after the match, Gray expressed his huge disappointment with the way his side finished the game.
“The result is extremely tough and sore to take. There was very little in the game.
“We started it well in terms of settling into it considering the atmosphere and the noise around it. Neither goalie had many saves to make throughout the game, it was a pretty poor game, and I don’t think the conditions helped on that front.
“In the second half they had a bit more of the ball, but we carried more of a threat. All the things that I’ve just spoken about and the good things we did for 92 minutes is undone in the very last second of the game; that’s inexcusable from our point of view.
“You have to have that desire to see the game out and make sure you get a point. Everything I spoke about in terms of positives is irrelevant if you can’t keep a clean sheet in the last second of the game.
“That moment sums up our season, and I’ve just reminded the players of that.
“I’ve reminded them of the start we’ve made to this season. A lot of good things have been said about us, the players, the football club, but where we find ourselves isn’t good enough for the level of players we’ve got and the level of performance we’ve put in at times.
“Again, I am saying the same things, that it wasn’t a complete performance. We need to put that right and the start we’ve made.
“It’s the international break now and the players that are here will work hard to make sure we put that right. This result will hurt until we get the chance to put it right in two weeks’ time.”
