The long-awaiting 2024 Paris Summer Olympics is here and once again the spotlight falls on Team GB and how its athletes will perform at the games. However, let’s delve deeper into Team GB and look at one of the home nations – Scotland, and its contribution. Below, we look at all Scottish athletes competing in Paris, and discuss their medal chances.
Scotland is fielding a 34-strong team for GB at the Paris Olympics
For the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Scotland has sent 34 athletes to represent Team GB. They will be hoping to make a fantastic contribution to the team, and within their ranks, we have some of the best British medal prospects, such as Duncan Scott and Josh Kerr. Below, you can see a complete table of Scottish athletes competing in Paris.
Of these 34 competitors, 22 are women, which means the gender split is 64%/36%, and this is an encouraging change. This goes some way to understanding gender parity in the Paris 2024 Olympics, and it’s one of the rare occasions where a nation is fielding more women than men.

Medal contention hopefuls for Scottish athletes
We expect all 34 athletes to put on a spectacular show in their sport and give their all for their country. However, some athletes have higher medal expectations than others due to past performances at events like the World Championships. Below, we take a look at four Scottish athletes who will be hopeful for a podium finish in Paris.
Duncan Scott
Duncan Scott is arguably our best chance at multiple medal wins after an incredible performance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He won one gold and three silvers at the previous Olympics and will be hoping to replicate his success in Paris. This year, he will be competing in the 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x200m freestyle relay.
He is currently the most decorated British Olympic swimmer and at the age of 27 has plenty of years left in the tank. Aside from amazing Olympic performances, Scott has also been dominant in the Commonwealth Games, winning two golds and four bronzes at the 2022 event in Birmingham.
Josh Kerr
Kerr is another medal hopeful and has been one of the top contenders in middle-distance running for several years now. His specialty is the 1500m and this is the event he will be competing in in Paris. Due to his excellent performances at the World Championships in 2024, Kerr has also been named as Team GB captain at the Olympics.
In May of this year, Kerr also famously broke Steve Cram’s British mile record by over a second, with a time of 3:45.34. This race was incredible and saw Kerr outlasting rivals Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Yared Nuguse, who he will be competing against in Paris for medal spots.
Laura Muir
Laura Muir has steadily risen to prominence in women’s middle-distance running and has an incredibly decorated career. She has won multiple gold medals at the European Championships, Diamond League and Commonwealth Games, and took the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for the 1500m.
She is currently the British record holder for the women’s 1500m and will be hoping to make a podium finish in Paris this summer.
Jemma Reekie
Reekie is one of the most promising upcoming athletes and she will be hoping to hit the medal podium after narrowly missing out at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. With a fourth-place finish in the 800m, she will be looking to build on her performance. She has been dominant at the U20 and U23 European Championships, winning gold in 2017 and 2019, and she also won silver at the 2024 Glasgow World Indoor Championships.
Scotland has a promising team for the 2024 Paris Olympics
We can’t wait to see all 34 athletes compete and we know they will do fantastic! It’s great to see new generations of Scottish athletes flourishing and competing at the top levels of world athletics, and we hope that they bring home a clutch of medals for Team GB!
