Sea Rising Festival in Portobello will take place on 22 June on the prom and beach featuring music and highlighting environmental issues.

Grassroots community organisation Porty Community Energy will bring together 10 bands/ musical acts, three exhibitions, 10 local makers, 10 local climate organisations, trials of unusual bikes, 5 workshops, kids activities and a puppet show on the beach and prom near the bottom of Kings Road.

The theme centres on low carbon transport and local climate action.

A spokesperson for the group said: “With the festival we would like to highlight one of the immediate impacts of climate change for our coastal community: the rising sea levels.

“We have chosen this day as it is midsummer and a full moon, and are expecting a high spring tide. There will be a tidal music stage, partly submerged at high tide, and a dry (amplified) stage on the prom. There will also be a makers market, stalls from climate groups, workshops, and the opportunity to try out different bikes (we also run the cargo bike library in Portobello).

“Edinburgh has a whole season of local festivals which nourish communities, for example North Edinburgh, Canal Festival, Climate Festival and Sea Rising Festival. At the Sea Rising Festival we’re trying our best to make choices as sustainable as possible – thinking about how our contributors travel to the festival, supporting local suppliers, not using diesel generators, plant based food and of course the themes and messages that our artists bring with them.”
