Aegon’s charity committee last week presented cheques totalling over £140,000 to the pension provider’s 2023 charity partners.
Through Aegon’s colleagues’ fundraising efforts – and double matching from Aegon – vital funds have been made available to six organisations including Cancer Card and The Brain Tumour Charity who are based in Edinburgh.
Cancer Card would like everyone who receives a cancer diagnosis to have access to a Comfort Box to remind them they’re not alone, and Aegon’s donation of £46,856.07 will help them do that. The Comfort Boxes contain practical and essential items, including a quality blanket, digital thermometer, and warm scarf.
Jen Hardy, Founder from Cancer Card said: “Cancer Card is a young charity that was founded during lockdown, so raising awareness of the charity and raising funds we needed to get our online platform launched is vital. Aegon has gone above and beyond in helping us achieve that. We wouldn’t have been able to launch our Comfort Boxes campaign without Aegon’s support.”
The Brain Tumour Charity will use Aegon’s donation of £46,856.07 to fund research, clinical trials and support for people who are affected by a diagnosis.
Cameron Miller, Director of Policy & Strategy at The Brain Tumour Charity, said:
“We are overwhelmed and immensely grateful by the dedication, creativity, and passion of all at Aegon in their drive to raise such vital funds. The money will help fund vital research projects, clinical trials into new treatments, peer to peer support when people receive a diagnosis and helping to raise the voices of those in the community making sure they are heard. All of this will ultimately lead to us delivering our strategy of helping those affected by a brain tumour live longer and better lives.”
Mike Holliday-Williams, CEO at Aegon, said:
“The cost-of-living crisis presented our colleagues and the charity committee with a real challenge this past year. But I’m delighted to report that across Aegon we rose to this challenge and delivered an exceptional fundraising year.
“At Aegon our aim to is to be here for everyone who wants to make the most of their time on the planet and leave it a little better than they found it. Our colleagues fundraising over £140,000 for these great charities shows that they not only share this aim but are delivering on it too.”
