A tenement on Lindsay Road has been declared unsafe by the council, residents evacuated and the road closed to traffic.
The council’s structural engineers have established that the building above the Prom Bar “carries a high risk of structural failure that could pose significant health and safety risk to residents and public both inside and outside the property”.
A cordon has been put up to create an exclusion zone. While Lindsay Road is closed to all traffic including buses numbers 16 and 200, the tram is still able to operate as normal. However locals are reporting that as the signs and barriers have blown down motorists are ignoring the road closure.
All residents in the block including the Prom Bar have been moved out for now. It is likely that the building will be surrounded with structural scaffolding to help support it while investigations continue. This might allow the council to reopen the roadway outside in due course.
In good news The Haven at the other end of the tenement is still open.
