Many people will pass through Edinburgh Airport this Christmas travelling to spend time with friends and family here and abroad.

Around 103,000 people have arrived and departed from the airport over this weekend – and more than 6,000 people will travel on Christmas Day.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said: ā€œThe festive season is one that many of us want to spend with family and friends and we are thrilled to help people reconnect at home and abroad ā€“ itā€™s our Christmas gift to them.

ā€œTravel really brings people together but it also provides an opportunity for others to get away from it all so whether you are visiting family, exploring new destinations, or seeking a quiet few days, we hope everyone has a fantastic time.ā€

The airport will also welcome a number of Hogmanay and New Year visitors between 29-31 December.

More than 55,000 people are expected to arrive into Edinburgh to bring in Hogmanay with people travelling from places such as the USA, Canada, Germany and Finland, as well as other areas of the UK.Ā

Gordon ā€œEdinburgh certainly knows how to throw a party and our Hogmanay celebrations are world renowned, so we should be honoured that people want to come to Scotland to celebrate and bring in the New Year with us.

ā€œAnd whether it is Christmas or New Year, all of this is made possible thanks to the fantastic staff at the airport who are here to make sure people can get to their destinations and celebrate. A big thank you to everyone who is working over the festive period to help create happy memories for our passengers.ā€

Edinburgh Airport continues to run security checks on liquids and laptops, although it announced in Summer 2023 that it had ordered new 3D scanners for hand luggage. London City Airport already has the scanners and has scrapped the rule on only carrying liquids in 100ml containers.

Edinburgh Airport chief operating officer Adam Wilson said at the time: “Safety is always paramount and by moving forward with these innovative and next generation scanners, we will maintain those high security standards while helping passengers move through the airport quicker.”
