A WOMAN has appeared in court on petition following an incident when two council workers were taken to hospital.
Eve Shaw, 31, faced an single allegation of culpable and reckless conduct when she appeared during a private hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, September 15.
Shaw, whose address was only given as Edinburgh, made no plea and the case was committed for further examination.
Shaw was granted bail and her next court appearance is still to be confirmed.
The court hearing comes four weeks after two workmen were taken to hospital after they had started feeling unwell while removing “unauthorised stickers” from a lamppost on the capital’s Morningside Road.
The pair had allegedly come into contact with a substance while working on the lamppost but after being checked over by medics they were discharged following the incident on August 20.
Police and the fire service both attended the scene and the area was closed off to the public while testing took place.
The road was eventually reopened after it was found the substance posed no risk to the public.
At the time, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On the evening of Thursday, 20 August, 2026, a further report was made about items being placed on a lamppost in the Morningside Road area of Edinburgh.
“A short closure was put in place while this was removed and further tests are being carried out on the substance to establish exactly what has been used.
“However, it was found to pose no further threat to the public.
“A 30-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with culpable and reckless conduct.
“She is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.”
A City of Edinburgh Council spokesperson said: “Whilst removing unauthorised stickers on a street lighting column, two of our cleansing operatives began to feel unwell.
“They were taken to hospital as a precaution and have since been discharged.
“We reported this incident to Police Scotland and will continue to assist them with their enquiries.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 3.13pm on Thursday, 20 August to reports of a hazardous material incident near to Hermitage Terrace and Morningside Road in Edinburgh.
“Operations Control mobilised two appliances and a specialist resource to support emergency services partners already at the scene.”
