A famous Los Angeles donut chain has announced it will open its first UK store in Edinburgh’s Old Town.
Randy’s Donuts, known for its enormous donut-shaped sign, which featured in Iron Man 2, will take over the former Barburrito restaurant on Forrest Road, near The Meadows.
The donut store – established in 1952 – is an institution in the City of Angels because of classic menu and instantly-recognisable 32-foot sign – which crowns all of its US stores.
The sign was immortalised when Iron Man – portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. – sits inside the centre and eats a box of donuts in the franchise’s second instalment.
The company now has 30 sites across the US, with branches in Mexico, Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines.
No official opening date has been confirmed, the firm’s website merely saying the branch is “coming soon”.
The proposals outline plans for exterior signage, which will feature an illuminated Randy’s Donuts logo.
The arrival of the Scottish branch comes after Randy’s Donuts owner and CEO, Mark Kelegian, is keen to expand the brand across the UK.
He said: “We are thrilled to announce that Randy’s Donuts is coming to the UK. We are confident that our unique brand and delicious doughnuts will be a hit with UK customers as it has been in Asia, the Middle East and the USA.”
It is believed that the Edinburgh branch will be followed by further locations in London.
Randy’s serves up classics like the Glazed Raised, Chocolate Raised and Maple Raised while also providing “premium” creations like the Bacon Maple Long John, Bear Claw, Glazed Crondy and Fruity Pebbles Raised Donut.
Coffees, iced drinks, and fruity refreshers will also be available.
