The Returning Officer for West Lothian has confirmed that a decision has been made to postpone the Local Government By-Election due to be held in the Livingston South Ward with a new provisional date fixed for Thursday 11 March 2021.

Under normal circumstances a by-election must be held within three months of the vacancy arising, however under the provisions of Section 70 of the Coronavirus Act 2020 the filling of the vacancy can be postponed where it is considered reasonable and appropriate to do so.  A date should be fixed for the poll to be held as soon as is reasonably practicable
The vote had originally been planned for the first week in October before being put back a month.

The decision to postpone the previous polling date of Thursday 5 November has been taken following an appropriate risk assessment exercise which considered the current public health advice applying in Scotland.
