Jack Ross has confirmed that Hibs are close to securing the signature of St Mirren captain Kyle Magennis.

The 22-year-old is currently recovering from a cruciate ligament injury sustained in January but underwent a medical yesterday and is expected to put pen to paper today.

He is in the last year of his current contract with St Mirren and manager Jim Goodwin was keen to keep him at the club.

The Saints initially rejected two bids from Hibs but the board has finally accepted Hibs’ offer and Magennis will resume his career under his former manager at Easter Road.

“I’ve just been told it’s almost there,” he told BBC Scotland before last night’s 3-2 victory over Hamilton Academical. “Kyle will be here tonight and has worked out most of his medical today. Hopefully it will be done very soon, but it isn’t done yet.”

Goodwin also told BBC Scotland: “Kyle was a big player for us. I made him captain in the summer. I think the world of him as a lad.

“Unfortunately things have changed overnight. I didn’t want to sell Kyle; you’ll need to ask [chief executive] Tony Fitzpatrick or someone on the board.”
