Hibs’ fans looking to get back to Easter Road for the top of the table clash with Rangers next weekend have had their hopes dashed after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that the return of spectators to Scottish sports stadiums has been delayed until 5 October at the earliest,

The two Scottish Premiership test events – Aberdeen v Kilmarnock and Ross County against Celtic – will go ahead on Saturday as planned whilst further possible pilots will be judged on a “case to case basis”.

Up to 300 supporters will be permitted access to both Pittodrie and Victoria Park on Saturday but the prospect of larger crowds this month is now over.

The First Minister said today: “The pandemic is at this stage accelerating again – albeit, and thankfully, from a low base and not as rapidly as it was back in March and April.

“We have concluded that these changes must be paused for a further three weeks. The new indicative date for their resumption is Monday 5 October, however, I must stress that this remains an indicative date – a final decision can only be taken nearer the time.”

Hibs fans will also miss out on the Friday night fixture against Hamilton Academical at Easter Road on Friday 2nd October however the club are due to meet Brora Rangers at home in the Betfred Cup group stages on 7th October then Dundee at Easter Road on 15th October.
