After a delay during which government advice changed, the Portobello Wheel finally opened to customers today.

Potential customers were left waiting and just a little disappointed until The City of Edinburgh Council gave it the all clear this afternoon.

The ferris wheel overlooking Portobello Beach has fantastic views to the Firth of Forth.

Although council staff had been expected this morning, but it was only Environmental Health staff who arrived around noon. After an hour long meeting giving advice about a couple of tweaks required – placement of barriers and hand sanitsers, the council then said they were satisfied.

But at 3.00pm the operators were still waiting for a further visit by other council staff who then gave the final approval.

Operators had originally hoped to open the wheel from 3 August to 24 August but were prevented from doing so due to Covid-19 restrictions. We understand that the wheel in Portobello may well become an annual attraction.
