A police investigation is underway after a 65-year-old was taken to hospital following a fire in a  ground floor flat in the Wester Hailes area during the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to the flat, on Westburn Grove, at 1.05am and left at 3.37am.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that four breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the blaze.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland said: “Police received report of a fire at a property on Westburn Grove, Edinburgh around 1.05am on Monday, 24 August, 2020.

“Emergency services attended, a 20-year-old man was treated by ambulance at the scene and a 65-year-old man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

“Enquiries are continuing.”
