The northbound carriageway of the M9 will be closed between M8 Junction 2 Claylands and M9 Junction 1 Newbridge from 20:00 until 06:00 on the nights of 29, 30, 31 July and 3, 4 August.
This is to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company Amey to resurface the carriageway.
Eastbound traffic on the M8 wishing to join the M9 northbound will be diverted via the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass from Hermiston and the A8 from Gogar to re-join the M9 at Junction 1 Newbridge. Traffic on the A720 destined for the M9 will be diverted via the same route.
An alternative diversion route will be signposted for westbound traffic on the M8 that misses the advanced warning signs, via M8 Junction 3 Livingston, the A899 and the A89.
These essential works, with a value of £436,000, will improve safety and journey time reliability and will reduce overall maintenance costs by mitigating the need for further reactive repairs.
The scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, City of Edinburgh Council, West Lothian Council and the emergency services.
The safety of workers remains a top priority during this essential maintenance project. Physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, will be in place to ensure all on-site personnel remain safe throughout the duration of the project. Thorough risk assessments will be carried out and cleansing stations will be implemented on site.
Transport Scotland and Amey fully recognise the importance of a safe and reliable trunk road network, particularly during the Covid-19 outbreak, and it is vital that essential maintenance works are carried out in order to maintain the integrity and safety of these routes. A number of maintenance projects have been identified as essential and will be prioritised over the coming weeks.
