The Edinburgh Steiner School in Spylaw Road has been inspected for the second year in a row by Education Scotland.

Inspectors say that matters which were found lacking last year have been improved.

The report includes the following statement:

“The school has made satisfactory progress since the original inspection visit. We are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and so we will make no more visits in connection with this inspection. The Board of Trustees will inform parents about the school’s progress as part of its arrangements for reporting on the quality of its school. The school’s link HM Inspector will maintain contact with the school to check on further progress.”

The school and its staff had been tasked with improving policies and procedures for safeguarding and child protection so that they comply with national guidelines. Staff responsibilities have been made clearer with some staff training.

Teamwork has been improved as well as record keeping, but inspectors recommend ensuring that appropriate information is given to parents.

Although a better complaints procedure has been put in place by the Board of Trustees although some parents still feel that their complaints are not always dealt with well.

The Board had also been tasked with improving the school’s leadership system and inspectors say that governance arrangements have been strengthened. A new chair has been appointed to the Board of Trustees along with new board members. And for the young people at the school there is a student council for senior pupils which is beginning to influence school improvement.
