Allan Stewart will play Mother Superior when Sister Act opens at Festival Theatre Edinburgh from 20 April to 12 May 2021.

The Scottish comedian and impressionist has a career which spans over 60 years and the announcement came as Allan Stewart’s Big Big Variety Show opens at the King’s Theatre on for the final run after six successful years.

Sister Act is based on the iconic movie and a spokesman said: “This sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music tells the hilarious story of the disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder.

“Under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a convent. Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.”

The show features original music eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken and is produced by Jamie Wilson and Whoopi Goldberg.

Glasgow-born Allan said: “Now that I’m Mother Superior I will have to get rid of all my dirty habits. It’s the part I’ve been praying for.”
