Joel Gautschi provided Murrayfield Racers with their only joy as they were beaten 9-1 by Telford Tigers in the National Ice Hockey League, North Cup, in the Capital.

The home side were 4-1 behind after the first session and 5-1 down at the end of the middle period.

Across the Forth, Fife Flyers’ 4-1 victory over Elite League bottom club Milton Keynes Lightning fired the Scots back into pole position in the 11-strong table.

Fife now have 20 points from 12 fixtures, a record which includes nine wins in regulation time.

Victory came after an early scare when Lightning went ahead after 28 minutes through Andreas Valdix.
