A third man has now been arrested as part of an Operation Orbit investigation into the theft of foreign motorcycles.

During the early hours of Wednesday 25th July, three German bikes were stolen from outside an address in Westfield Court.

One of the motorcycles was recovered nearby a short time later, while the other two were found in West Fairbrae Drive and Bankhead later that day.

Two males aged 17 and 16 were charged at the time and as a result of inquiries carried out by the Operation Orbit team, a 19-year-old was apprehended and charged on Tuesday 21st August.

He is scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday 22nd August.

Chief Inspector Gill Geany, who has oversight for Operation Orbit, said: “Three people have now been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of the German motorcycles in July and we want to once again reiterate our message that the theft and criminal use of motorcycles within Edinburgh will not be tolerated.

“Operation Orbit can call upon a range of specialist resources to assist its investigations, including the Air Support Unit, Dog Unit and Road Policing Unit, demonstrating the strength and capability at our disposal to target offenders.”
