Several of the local fisheries have updated us with information about opening dates.

Currently, the access to Loganlea is blocked by snow but Karen Jack is aiming to be open on Saturday 17th. Her email punchline was: Fingers crossed.

And at nearby Glencorse Reservoir, Bill Taylor has pencilled Saturday, March 24 as his opening day.

John Mackay is planning to open Morton Fishings near Mid Calder, on Saturday, March 17. Of course, Roslynlee has stayed open all winter.

Moving onto the rivers, Peter Reith tells me that because of the numbers of the large “Stanhope” Brown Trout caught last year they have made the Tweed in Peeblesshire catch and release only for both trout and grayling.

And West Lothian Angling Association have updated their information on permits.

They are also available from Tangles, 81A East Main Street, Broxburn, as well as Edinburgh Angling Centre and Orvis in Hope Street, Edinburgh.

The association’s popular fly tying social is on the first Monday of every month at Mid Calder Community Centre, 15 Market Street, Mid Calder (19:30 to 21:00) where permits can be bought.
