Dylan McGeouch has revealed that talks are ongoing between his agent and Hibs regarding a possible new contract although he is totally focussed on playing.

Hibs’ fans are desperate to see the former Celtic player, whose form this year has brought him international recognition, sign a new deal.

His contract is up in the summer and with teammate John McGinn likely to leave, supporters are worried that McGeouch may follow him outĀ of the door.

McGeouch has enjoyed a successful spell at Easter Road and was part of the team that won the Scottish Cup in 2016 as well as promotion back to the top flight last season.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s game against St Johnstone, McGeouch said: “Me and my agent have spoken to the club and talks are ongoing, but I’ve said to both sides that I just enjoy playing.

“As I said, I’ve had a frustrating couple of years so I’m just concentrating on getting games and hopefully I can keep doing that.

“I’m enjoying my time here, it’s been great. I’ve had a lot of highs like winning the Scottish Cup and promotion and this season as well as we are fighting for second or third place. It’s been a great season but obviously I have to look after myself.Ā  Talks are ongoing though and we will see what happens.

“I’m still at a young age and I don’t want to chase the money. My relationship with the fans has been excellent. I wouldn’t just take the first offer that came. It’s all about getting the right move for myself. If that means staying here then great.

“The manager (Neil Lennon) has been excellent. If you are not on your game he tells you. He is very demanding, even when we are doing well he demands the best out of everybody.”

McGeouch was named sponsor’s man of the match in last week’s Edinburgh derby victory over Hearts and his performance caught the eye of new Scotland manager Alex McLeish who named him in his first squad.

He insists that the call-up is a fantastic honour for him and his family.

He continued:Ā “I’m really looking forward to it and hopefully I can go and express myself. It’s my first call-up and hopefully there will be many more. I’ve been through the youth system right up to the under 21s so this is a great honour for me and my family.to get my senior call up.

“I was aware that Alex McLeish was at the derby having a look at a few players. Hopefully my style of play can fit in with how he wants too play. It’s now all about taking the opportunity to show what I can do.

“It was a good game and a good result and I am thankful that I made the squad. At the start of the season my main aim was to get a run of games for Hibs.

“I think that now I have got rid of niggly injuries, I’ve put a good run together.”
