Back in 1962, Tracy Turnblad, a girl with a big heart and hair to match, is determined to follow her dreams and dance on national television. The girl from Baltimore’s audition is a great success and she uses her fame to fight for equality.

Hairspray, the smash hit musical comedy, is based on John Waters’ 1988 film. The musical began on Broadway back in 2002 and was an immediate hit, winning eight Tony Awards. The musical opened in London five years later, winning Best New Musical.

Hairspray has a starring cast including well-known comedian Norman Pace (one half of Hale &Pace), Brenda Edwards, Layton Williams, Matt Rixon and Rebecca Mendoza. It features songs such as Welcome to the 60s, You Can’t Stop the Beat and The Nicest Kids in Town.

Hairspray the musical is on at the Edinburgh Playhouse from Monday 12th to Saturday 17th March 2018.
