Redhall Special School organised a special assembly on November 10 on to celebrate being awarded the Rights Respecting School Award level 2.

They are the first special school in Edinburgh to achieve this and Gerry McMurtrie from Unicef will present the award.

The Rights Respecting School Award level 2 is the highest award given to schools who demonstrate progress in four standards.

McMurtrie, a senior professional advisor Rights Respecting Schools Unicef said in his report: “It was clear during the visit that everyone places a real importance on respect for rights and promoting the school’s rights respecting ethos which was both inclusive and participatory.

“It was particularly notable that all staff placed children’s rights at the heart of their practice and saw the real benefits of a rights based approach when supporting a number of pupils with additional support needs.”
