Fifty Co-op staff from eleven stores in and around Edinburgh – including Earl Grey Street, Frederick Street, South Clerk Street and Morrison Street – wore pyjamas to work today for Sleep in the Park.
The highprofile event, which has been organised by Edinburgh-based social enterprise Social Bite, aims to get 9,000 people sleeping rough in the city’s West Princes Street Gardens on 9 December.
The event features an impressive lineup with Liam Gallagher, Deacon Blue, Amy Macdonald and Frightened Rabbit. Comedian Rob Brydon will be hosting while John Cleese and Sir B0b Geldof will also be making speeches.
Co-op manager, Graeme Cranston, said: “Homelessness is a very real problem in and around Edinburgh and it’s an issue we feel very strongly about. Once we heard about the huge sleep out event we knew it was something that store colleagues in the area would want to get behind and we’re all extremely excited to be involved.”
”It’s fair to say that our colleagues have had some quizzical looks from shoppers so far today but people are only too happy to donate money to this incredible cause.”
