Two men have been arrested and charged  in connection with the assault and robbery of two women in the city centre which  took place around 5.40pm and 7.45pm in the Crown Street and Bellevue Road areas on Sunday 22 October.

A 42-year-old woman had her handbag stolen as she pushed her son in his wheelchair along Crown Street.

A 25-year-old woman was then robbed of her mobile phone and handbag as she walked north on Bellevue Road.

Two men aged 29 and 27-years-old have now been arrested and charged and are expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday 26 October.

Detective Sergeant Mark Lumsden of Gayfield CID said: “Thankfully no one was injured as a result of these incidents, however, the women were understandably very shaken.

“We have carried out a number of enquiries and I would like to thank the victims and public for their assistance with our investigation.
