Coming of Age “Embrace it with enthusiasm…”   Well, why not?

Coming of Age is a collection of original songs on the theme of growing old, reflecting the fantasies and frustrations of an “older” woman. The songs are sung with the backing of a band called The Professors of Logic, comprising Linda Campbell on the piano accordion, Alan Grieve on the guitar, Wilf Smarties on the bass guitar, Sandie Benzie on the saxophone, with the singer, Anna Durkacz, playing fiddle and button accordion.

The performers come from diverse musical backgrounds, and have played together in many different settings, including ceilidh bands and pub sessions.  The songs, written with a wry wit and humour, are composed and sung by Anna, with a story line running from youth, through adulthood and parenthood, loss, fantasy and self-discovery.  They reflect a variety of styles and genres, including Country, Blues, Trad, Jazz and Cajun.

The micro-niche might be called Post-Menopausal, Anna’s early musical influences being Hair the Musical, Fleetwood Mac and Andy Stewart and the White Heather Club.

She has been described as “the Beryl Cooke  of song-writing” and “the Weird Al Yankovitch of the Old Mum Genre”.

The show will be performed at 11am every day from 20th to 27th August 2017, at The Pear Tree, West Nicholson Street, Edinburgh EH8.
