‘Cracked Tiles’ by Lorenzo Novani

Within the walls of his crumbling inheritance a man speaks with his deceased father, what could he possibly discover?

‘His father seemed like an ordinary, hard-working man but Riccardo knows that somewhere in the grease-stained walls of his crumbling inheritance – a run down fish and chip shop- the truth is hidden. However, time is against him, the shop is about to be sold and it won’t give its secrets up easily. Battling demented customers, family curses, and supernatural agents of the state along the way, join him on his tragicomic journey as he excavates the ruins of the family business and time travels into the past to uncover the truth about his mysterious father.’

Lorenzo studied Writing for Stage and Screen at the University of Strathclyde. Since finishing the course, he has written two theatre plays – ‘Sticks & Stones’ – about the rise and fall of a right wing activist-  and ‘Cracked Tiles’. ‘Cracked Tiles’ has been performed around the UK over the last year and even had an exclusive showing in Italy in the spring. It picked up a top monologue award at EdFringe 2016 (Bouquets and Brickbats) and received an ‘outstanding’ rating from Fringe Review.

As an Equity/Spotlight Actor (Spotlight View Pin – 0930-5614-3849), Lorenzo has worked with several professional, semi-professional and profit-share theatre companies over the years but recently has focused on producing his own writing. As well as his theatre writing, Lorenzo has a separate strand of work under the persona ‘Poet of the Impossible’, in which Lorenzo fuses magic and spoken word poetry. This unique work was most recently showcased at the Edinburgh International Magic Festival in July.
