Following a hugely successful Worldwide tour of his third play, Angel, two-time Fringe First Award-winning playwright Henry Naylor returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer with the highly anticipated premiere of his new play. In Borders, he turns his attention to the refugee crisis by highlighting the epic story of one young Syrian’s journey to Europe.

Farah has been subjected to barrel bomb attacks, her husband has been jailed and tortured, and she’s been horrified by the influx of foreign jihadis. But she’d never wanted to leave her homeland until the day she fell pregnant. Now, she will join the 4.8 million other Syrians displaced by war on a life-threatening journey for the chance to raise her unborn child in the Freedom of Europe.

But she’s in for a nasty shock…The West has changed; it belongs to Farage and Trump and Le Pen. This is now a Europe with high fences and razor wire; this is a Europe with Borders.

The play is inspired by conversations Henry has had with refugees who were directly affected by the current crisis, during Q&A sessions whilst touring Angel.

In Borders, he resumes his collaboration with Director Michael Cabot, the Artistic Director of London Classic Theatre with the aim of developing a minimalist style that will strip theatre back to the essentials of script, performance and direction.
