The Kia Rio was finally stopped in Dalkeith just after 2am on Monday morning and a police car was damaged during the incident.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers engaged in a pursuit in the Wallyford area of Musselburgh shortly after 2am on Monday after attempting to signal a vehicle, previously reported stolen, to stop.

“A Kia Rio was involved in a collision with a marked police car in the Salters Road area of Dalkeith and two males were detained shortly afterwards in the James Lean Avenue area.

“A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old have now been charged in connection with this and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
